On Thursday 27th November 2014 I attended the PEA (People Environment & Achievement) Awards. http://www.peaawards.com/news-press/
“The awards were founded with an intent and need to support individuals and teams making a real difference in the world today, hopefully inspiring others and stimulating the decision makers to take urgent action for the way we are treating our planet” Jarvis Smith Founder
The event was held at No1 Invicta Plaza South Bank London SE1 9UF with this years theme being “Unity”. I arrived early as I usually do! The team were still setting up for the evening. I took the opportunity to wonder around to see what the venue had in store. On stage stood the host for the evening TV presenter and ECO designer Oliver Heath. I walked back to the entrance at the rear opposite the stage and stood against the wall next to a growing group of individuals. I found to my surprise the group was made of solicitors. I attended the evening to learn more about the awards, the organisers and to meet people who share a passion for all things “green”. I didn’t think I would meet lawyers at this event – I just can’t seem to get away from them! They were there in force and to be honest I was proud to see this. They were with the Environmental Law Foundation (ELF). ELF is a registered charity which provides free information and advice on environmental issues to individuals and communities via its network of specialist environmental lawyers and technical experts.
Just before I introduced myself to the lawyers, Jarvis Smith greeted me and welcomed me to the event. He was genuinely pleased that I expressed an interest in communicating the importance of sustainability. It was wonderful and inspirational to be part of an event where all the attendees shared a similar passion. This shared passion did indeed UNITE us. There was unity in the “house” thanks to Jarvis and his team.
Arthur Potts Dawson prepared the delicious food for the evening which also united us!
Awards were given to the green heroes in a number of categories. Some of the business categories included:
It is important that we all consider how our actions impact the world we live in, for surely our future depends on it. Government and businesses play a key role to help set the agenda to debate and culture new innovative more sustainable methods. It is only when we debate and think will new methods become more commercially viable and in turn, more attractive for the business owner.
